16 No-Fail Holiday Cocktail Dresses

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Mike and I finished up the bulk of our work on Friday, so we kind of took it easy the last few days. It’s been so nice to not be glued to my computer. We also attended a holiday party on Saturday night. We only intended to stay for a little bit since we had Harper with us. She warmed up to everyone fast, waiving at anyone that walked by, lol. At about an hour and half she lost it (she was just way too tired) and we made our way home. In general though, she did a really good job!

To continue with my holiday outfit inspiration, today’s post is all about no-fail holiday cocktail dresses.

I feel like this may be a popular event for everyone this holiday season. Cocktail parties in general seem to be the most popular during this time of year. I’m not a big short-dress-kind-of-girl, but if I’m going to wear one, I’ll most likely balance it out with long sleeves. As with any other outfit I put together, I like balance. A short dress with short sleeves (or sleeveless) seems a little to showy for me (if that’s a word), but everyone is different, so do you. Anyway, this dress is from & Other Stories. This was my first time ordering from them and I was pleasantly surprised. They have so many great on-trend pieces on their site and so far the quality seems really nice. I love that they share measurements on the site because I knew this dress could work for me as soon as I read the description. It’s velvet, which is a nice weight for the cold. Although it’s a classic (basic) black dress, the plunging neckline adds just enough interest. The neckline ran a little low for me, so I ended up pinning it in the back. But, that’s the risk you run when ordering regular and not petite sizing. If you decide to go with a black dress for your holiday party, you can always play it up with accessories.
