Wearing plaid after the holidays can be tricky. Because it’s such a staple in November and December, often times, I shy away from all things plaid until after winter. It’s kinda like, we’ve exhausted the print so much, we need a break. Or it’s so synonymous with the holidays, it feels a little tacky to continue to wear it after Christmas. Does anyone else feel this way? With that being said, I love a good plaid print, so I’m sharing 3 tricks to make plaid work, always.

First and foremost, when looking to wear the print, avoid any holiday color schemes. They’re certain shirts that become available during the prime holiday months that are specific to the season. Pack those away until next year and reach for something more neutral (not red and green together). Speaking of neutrals, to keep your plaid looking chic and on trend, pair it with a neutral color palette. Think black, gray, navy, tan, white, or denim rather than brights or neons. And finally, try tying your plaid shirt around your waist for a subtle pop of print. This is one of my favorite styling tricks with plaid shirts and an easy to way to incorporate the print without looking like you’re headed to a holiday party.
