Aging and Treating my Body Better

Patagonia fleece, Zella “Live In” leggings, Nike Air Max Thea sneakers, Ray-Ban aviators, Gap beanie (similar)

My 31st birthday is around the corner and I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my body. Honestly, after turning 30, the only thing that seems to be maturing is my body. Mike and I talk about it all the time, we both mentally feel like we’re still kids, the same people from 10 years ago, but our bodies tell us different. Aging is such a weird thing and something I don’t think is discussed enough on social media and blogs. I’m not afraid of getting older and would never hide my age (my age doesn’t define me), but one thing I do know, I have to start treating my body better.

Getting older has come pretty natural for me. I would say my first year as a 30 year old was my best year yet. I’m more open minded, patient, understanding, and less judgmental. I have experience to fall back on and even have advice for those seeking it. I actually know how to pencil in my eyebrows now, so things are looking up, lol. The one thing I haven’t loved through this aging process, the way my body feels and look older. I know a lot of this has to do with my lack of movement, but overall, it can’t do as much as before and it takes a lot longer to recover. I think it’s a combination of accepting this, but also, treating myself better and making my body a priority. Heck, we only have one and once it starts depleting, things can only go downhill from there.

The biggest thing affecting me right now is my lack of muscle tone. While all my clothes still fit, I’m feeling more flabby than ever. Being someone who has been physically active her whole life, with at least some muscle definition, I have to be honest, I’m feeling pretty self-conscious. I would say I’m not as crazy as I used to be when it comes to eating healthy, but health and fitness play a major role in my life (I’ve been eating vegan for almost 10 years). So, I completely get it and I know how important it is to eat real foods and workout not just for muscle definition, but for my overall health. I’m a believer. I just have to find some balance in my life. Less work and more physical activity. I know if things don’t change, my body will start breaking down. For reals though, my hamstrings are tight from walking up and down our stairs (yikes!).

How do you fit your workouts into your busy days? I’ve been thinking about going to bed earlier and waking up earlier to fit them in. If you have any tips on how you’re making it all work, I’d love to hear from you.

To help get me excited for my workouts this fall, I teamed up with Nordstrom to talk activewear. I recently picked up this super warm Patagonia fleece. It’s slightly oversized on me, but I think it runs TTS for most. It comes in a handful of different colors, but I must say, this creamy white is the perfect contrast to the dreary days ahead. I talked about these Zella ‘live in’ leggings in the past, but just in case you missed the post, you NEED these! I’m wearing an xxs, and while they run long (I fold mine under), the quality can’t be beat for the price. They’re nice and thick, but still slimming. They’re perfect for workouts, but also great to wear under tunic sweaters and pair with boots. I will be living in these all fall and winter. And lastly, do yourself a favor and snag a pair of Nike Air Max Thea sneakers. Not only are they super comfortable (run narrow though), they’re so chic! I probably wouldn’t run in these, but I love them for walks and to run errands.

I’ll be posting more of my favorite Nordstrom activewear next week, stay tuned!
