Gap Favorites + Some Thoughts

As I’ve mentioned it several times here on the blog, I’ve been wearing Gap since I was a little girl and have been shopping there ever since. They have so many great basics and to be honest they’ve really stepped up their game in the last couple of years. Big fan! However, as an avid online shopper, I’ve noticed their pieces don’t look as great on their website as they do in real life. While Natalie and I were in sf last weekend we stopped in at the Chestnut location (one of my favorites) and tried on a couple things. We both oogled over the distressed denim jacket above. It’s in a really great wash, has pockets, and is super soft (the exact wash I’ve been looking for!). The thing is, you can’t tell online. I would have scrolled right on by… I loved it so much I ended up ordering the jacket online and only did so because I saw it and tried it on in the store. Crazy right?!

I also tried on the baseball tee and the striped pullover sweatshirt. I ended up ordering the baseball tee online after I got home and will most likely snag the sweatshirt too. Also, those coated biker leggings jeans look pretty rad in person (can’t tell online). I didn’t try them on, but I know they’ll be great for fall!

I normally buy Gap in-store because it’s convenient enough for me, but this whole not-as-nice-online thing really got me thinking. Do you think Gap and maybe other online retailers do this to get you into the actual store? How much of an impact does the actual picture of the item online influence your purchase? And what about those sites that knock it out of the park like Shopbop and J.Crew? Don’t they make you want to order everything? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
