Cropped flare jeans have been a favorite of mine since last year around this time. At first I wasn’t sure if I could jump on board with the style, but now, I almost prefer them over skinny jeans, especially during the warmer months. With that being said, I haven’t had the best luck with finding a whole lot of options that fit. I knew going into my search, cropped anything was going to be a tough find for my petite frame. I stumbled upon a pair last year at Banana Republic that fit right off the rack (see them in this post). I honestly got so lucky. They sold out online super fast and haven’t been remade since (which is super unfortunate bc they fit small frames perfectly). Any other cropped flare jeans I own are way too long and have been cut to fit right above my ankle. The Olivia Crop from Joe’s Jeans are super comfortable (although a lint magnet), the Mia Raw Hem cropped jeans these from Hudson are nice and flattering (but, another lint magnet), and the ones I’m wearing here are a gorgeous light wash, but sold out. I also have these from J Brand and these from The Great, but both still need cutting.

I know what you’re thinking, I’m crazy to take scissors to all my jeans. Yes, I would agree with you, but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. I love the cropped style with sandals, flats, and ankle booties, and since there isn’t a ton of options, I have to, in a sense, make my own. With that being said, I know most of you are not as comfortable cutting up your jeans (it’s been a skill i’ve been practicing for 5 years now), so here are a couple of tips/options. First and foremost, always check the inseam of the jeans when you’re searching. At this point you’ll know if the jeans will work for you. If you love the style, but are not able to find anything that fits, try picking up a more affordable option from Old Navy. That way, if you cut them the wrong length and need to toss them, it’s not a huge blow on your wallet. When you go to cut, try them on and mark your perfect length with tailor chalk. Have another person (husband, boyfriend, mom, or dad) hold the jeans taut to ensure you’re cutting a straight line. Something I’ve noticed over time, the legs of the jeans are not always the same length, so keep this in mind when cutting and measuring.

Disclaimer – I don’t encourage any of you to go and cut up all your jeans. Please only do it if you feel comfortable and confident you’re making the right decision. You could always get them tailored too.

If I find any must-have petite-friendly cropped flares, I’ll be sure to share them with you. In the meantime, check out some options above that have recently caught my eye.
