I’ve received so many questions and comments about the Madewell Spencer Sweater Coat, so I figured it’s about time I dedicate an entire to post to it. Not only is it my most worn fall piece so far, but you guys are loving it as well! It’s our number one seller. The color alone screams fall, but the oversized fit is cozy perfect for this time of year. It’s so darn easy to throw on (which is why I’ve already worn it a ton) and it works perfectly in my neutral wardrobe.
In general, the sweater fits oversized. I’m only 5ft and the xxs fits fine. I’m not usually into oversized, but I don’t think this sweater swallows me, otherwise, I wouldn’t have kept it. I’ve received a lot of questions about the pilling of the sweater. I does pill, but it’s not anything crazy. Unfortunately, I’ve bought enough sweaters in my time to know all sweaters pill. Even the expensive ones. I bought a fabric cutter to help with this.
Many of you asked to compare the Madwell Spencer sweater-coat and J.Crew’s Sophie open-front sweater blazer. To me, they’re very different. One’s a cardigan and one is a blazer. The Madewell Spencer sweater-coat is thicker, warmer, oversized, and more casual. The J.Crew Sophie open-front sweater blazer is more structured and can easily be dressed up, and not as warm. This one has not pilled so far. If you’re looking for something more casual, I say go with the Madewell option. If you want something more structured that you can wear to work, get the J.Crew option. And if you’re like me and love a good neutral layer – get both, lol!
