I did a post on over-the-knee boots last year, but this year I’ve learned not all OTK boots are created equal. You see, when you’re petite you need the shaft to be as tight and thin as possible, otherwise your legs start to look like tree trunks. I learned this only after seeing photos of myself in these Aldo boots from last year. I also learned my lesson when ordering these Dolce Vita boots. I love the look and feel of these boots. The color is on point and the casual style make them extremely versatile, but the shaft is way too thick for me. I’ve seen them work on other taller girls, so if you’ve been eyeing them, I’d recommend trying them on first.
As mentioned on Instagram, these Joie Jemina boots are great for petites. The shaft is thin and form fitting helping to elongate my legs (woohoo). They’re also fairly easy to get on, which have been an issue with OTK boots. While they’re still an investment, the Jemina’s are priced really well and absolutely worth every $. They come in black and dark taupe (the ones above) and can be found here, here, and here.
I also recently snagged the Marina boots from Cole Haan during their Friends and Family sale. I was on the hunt for gray OTK boots and read about how much Jean loved her black pair. The 3.5” heel make these a little bit more wearable on any occasion and I’m obsessed with the color. They run TTS, but it does take some time to get them on and off. Since they’re suede, I’m hoping they’ll stretch over time. The shaft is narrow and form fitting, but with very little wiggle room. Trying to get my jeans into them was quite the workout, but again, I’m hoping over time they will stretch out a bit.
The lesson of the day, not all over-the-knee boots are created equal and know it’s really all about shaft preference. If you’re petite or have more athletic legs, go for something form fitting and thin. If you’re tall and/or have long legs, the sky’s the limit, lol. Obviously, knowing whether a boot has a thin or thick shaft is hard to tell online, so either try them on in person, or be prepared to make a couple returns before finding your perfect fit.
