Finding the Perfect Boyfriend Jeans

{Gap tee + jeans, Zara blazer (similar), Madewell Frankie pump in glitter, 3.1 Phillip Lim satchel, Purple Paparazzi teal bracelet c/o}

The right boyfriend jeans can be tough to find and even harder to style, especially when you’re petite. I have three pairs that I’ve worn on the blog and while they’re extremely comfortable, wearable, and probably fine for most people, I wasn’t satisfied. I never thought, these are perfect! While trying different styles and brands I found a couple things to keep in mind when looking for the perfect bf jeans. First things first, most boyfriend styles are too big for smaller frames. The distressing lands in weird spots and the hips make us look wider than ever (not a good combo for short legs). The jeans always feel a little overwhelming, you know? So, then what’s the answer? Boyfriend jeans don’t have to be the jeans actually titled “Boyfriend jeans.” Try different styles and sizes. Depending on the look you’re going for, go with the straight leg or the skinny jean in a couple sizes larger than normal. I have a pair of Always Skinny jeans from Gap in one size up that can pass as boyfriend’s anyday.

A couple weeks ago I stopped into Gap and went on a try-on-every-jean marathon. Out of 20 different styles, I finally found the perfect bf jeans that fit my frame unbelievably well (the ones above). The hips don’t overwhelm, they’re a great dark shade with a little fading, and they aren’t too baggy in any areas. And guess what, they’re not even “Boyfriend Jeans,” they’re the Real Straights. With a little more self-distressing, I have a feeling I will be living in these jeans. I’m obsessed!

If you’re struggling to find your perfect pair of bf jeans, I would say keep an open mind and try any and all styles. Any loose jean can be transformed to look like you borrowed from the boys.
