Madewell Petite Review
One of my favorite brands has introduced petites and I could not be more excited! I’ve been waiting for this for what feels like forever. Initially, I thought it was only going to be jeans, but then I started seeing more – overalls, tops, jackets, dresses – eek, I can’t wait to see what else they come out with! Once the weather warmed up I knew I had to share and review a couple of petite pieces for you guys.
I tried on the regular version of these overalls last year and hated them. The proportions were all off on me and they looked horrible. Well, I gave them another chance in the petite size and they fit extremely well. I went up a size, since they have a “skinny” fit and I’m not into the super tight overall look. Before cutting the hems (more on that later), the length hit right at my ankles and the overall fit is really nice. The denim has a nice stretch to them and have a comfortable soft feel. When I tried them on, I liked them, but something was off. I rolled the hems under to see what they would look like a little cropped and I loved the look so much more. I decided to keep them and cut the hems for a raw hem look. If you’re taller than me, I think the regular hems could work. I love the way the cropped style looks with mules – so perfect for spring!
I wasn’t expecting to see Madewell petite dresses, so when I saw this, I snagged it immediately. I went with the smallest size and it fits extremely well. Not everyone does petite sizing well, but so far I’m loving the fit. This dress is perfect for spring and summer. It has a good weight to it and while it’s not lined, the white fabric is thick enough to not be completely see through (wear nude undergarments).
Great but not perfect. I went back and forth about these jeans and ultimately decided to keep them. The overall fit is great – tight with some stretch, high waisted and suck you in, and the rips land right on the knees. My issue with them, the leg opening is too wide. I wish Madewell would tapper their jeans more at the leg opening. I have heard others talk about this even with their regular jeans. Dear every brand of denim, we want jeans with a tight fit on the ankles, otherwise we would buy straight-legged jeans, lol. This little detail has such a huge impact on the overall look – flattering and slimming versus blah. I decided to keep them because I know I would get a ton of wear out of these with boots in the fall and winter.
