6 Staple Shoes To Have In Your Closet

Many of you requested “best of” types of posts, so I thought it would be helpful to break down some of my staple shoes in my closet. These are shoes that I’ve either had for years and still reach for or shoes I know will become regulars for years to come. Over the years I’ve really pared down my shoes and try to only invest in shoes I know I will wear. A couple years ago I noticed myself buying anything and everything that caught my eye and I was stuck with a closet full of shoes I never wore. Today’s post is dedicated to the staples, shoes I love and wear and shoes I would recommend to anyone.

Gucci Mules 5 – I will give these a dedicated post one of these days, but I can’t recommend the Gucci mules more. I always get asked if they’re “worth it” and in my opinion, 100%. I’ve had mine for 3+ years and they’ve held up well and I still reach for them all the time. For me, they run TTS and were comfortable right out of the box. I’m a flats over heels girl through and through and these are the perfect pair to elevate any outfit while still allowing you to be comfortable.

Marc Fisher Chelsea Boots 5 – I’ve had these for 3+ years as well and still reach for them all the time. These are the only flat boots I own and wear. As a petite, flat boots aren’t the most flattering, so I’m very picky about what I’ll wear and recommend. I get SO many questions on the best flat boots for petites and I always recommend these, in black. The pointed chelsea style is elevated, chic, and a bit edgy. The shaft isn’t too high, so they’re still flattering on the legs and they look amazing with black skinny jeans. On top of all that, they’re SUPER comfortable. My only tiny complaint, I wish they were a bit tighter and form fitting to the foot. Although, mine are old, so the new version might be better with this.

Veja Sneakers 4 – I’ve had these for a good 2 years now and I still love them so much. There’s something about the black and white contrast that does it for me. And, they photograph so well every single time (lol). This style has a very European vibe and really makes your outfit look elevated and chic. They do take some time to break in. There’s lot of complaints on the stiff tongue, but if you fold it under the laces, you’re golden. Also they run a full size large. For small feet like mine, 5, I had to search and wait until the 4 was available. Nordstrom was the only place I found them in a size 4.

Nike Air Max 270’s 6 – These are hands down my most worn shoes right now (or for the last 5 months). I have a thing for Nike sneakers, so I’ve had my fair share, but these take the cake. They’re elevated and sleek, they give you height, and they’re so comfortable! I did have to go a full size up, though. This style is just so chic. I even got them in another colorway.

Aquatalia Britney Boots 5 – These boots are new-to-me this year, but they’re amazing. I had been wanting to try the Aquatalia brand for a while, but wasn’t sure due to the steep price. After wearing them for a couple of months, I have to say, they’re worth the investment. The quality is top notch and the fact that they’re weatherproof is awesome, especially living in the PNW. They’re also incredibly comfortable right out of the box. This Britney style has a longer shaft, which makes them perfect for wearing under your jeans. It also has a rounded, but square-ish toe, so for those of you who prefer non-pointed toe boots, these are a great option. An investment for sure, but this style is so classic you’ll get a ton of wear out of these.

Cole Haan Grand Explore Waterproof Hiking Boots – These are my favorite all-weather boots. I wear these when it’s absolutely freezing outside and need warmth or I wear them to the snow. One of my favorite things about these boots, especially compared to its counterparts, they’re lightweight. Hiking/snow boots can be bulky and heavy and these are not. There’s also a small wedge on the inside of the boot, providing that extra height. The black is classic, but the shearling keeps them fun and interesting. These run TTS, but I like to always go up a half size in winter boots because I’ll wear thicker socks with them.

6 Staple Shoes To Have In Your Closet

Finding the best shoes for your wardrobe takes time and practice. You have to understand your style, figure out what you reach for the most, and what styles look best on you. From there, you can start to really invest in the right styles that will help expand your wardrobe. Another piece of advice, find shoes that are “missing” in your wardrobe versus buying every trend you see on internet. You want your shoes to serve a purpose versus sit on your shelf. Maybe it’s white sneakers, black ankle boots, flats that work year round. Fill in the gaps.

It’s no surprise my 6 staple shoes are from Nordstrom. They always have the best selection of classics and trends at every price point. I also recently picked up these running shoes, these winter boots (in chestnut), and these mules (for spring!). Be sure to check out their new arrivals here. I know many of you are ready for spring and I’m already seeing a great selection at Nordstrom.
