Harper’s First Trip to Black Butte Ranch
Happy Tuesday! How was your weekend? We got back from Black Butte on Wednesday and spent the rest of the week/weekend getting back into the swing of things. Temps have dropped significantly and it’s felt amazing. Fall layers, I’m ready for you!

Black Butte was our first trip with Harper and it was a great way to ease into the whole packing and traveling with a baby. Since it’s only 2 hours away and we were traveling by car, I was able to pack a little more than I would if we were flying anywhere (next week to California). Everything fit in the car with some room, so I would say it was a success. Overall, the trip went well. It was tough because Harper seemed to be off a bit. A new place coupled with the fact that she was constipated for over a week made for an interesting couple of days. She was extra fussy and very clingy, which made for tired parents. She ended up having 2 poop explosions – which was great for her constipation, but not great for us at 5:30 am, lol. Luckily, we had everything we needed to survive those and only 1 piece of clothing didn’t survive, lol. Aside from a couple issues, Harper experienced her first dip in the pool and loved it. We tried to get her in Lodge pool with her floaty, but apparently they leave that one at lake temps, so she wasn’t having it. Seeing that little girl in her swimsuit doing her thing was worth all the tired days. We can’t wait to go back next summer!
A side note – I thought it was going to be tough sleeping in the same room as Harper. She goes to bed at 6pm and we stayed up pretty late some nights. She’s a good sleeper, so she didn’t wake up once when we came to bed. I had some anxiety over it the first night and didn’t sleep much, but by the second night I was good and probably just exhausted, lol. Her sound machine was on, we blacked out the room, and we used ear plugs. I’m hoping this will be the recipe for our California trip.
We’ve been non-stop since having Harper (running a business, figuring out the whole parenting thing, and buying a new house), so it was nice to check out for a bit. Taking time away from work and just enjoying life is hard to do around here, but so needed! We’re off to California at the end of next week and while I’m excited to introduce Harper to all our friends and family, I’m a little intimidated about flying and living that hotel life with a baby. Wish us luck!
