3 Easy Tips to Dress Up Mom Jeans

Mom jeans are a fairly new style of denim that I get asked about all the time. While I don’t think mom jeans are hard to style, I do think it’s new territory for many. We’re all very used to skinny jeans or boyfriends jeans, but what are mom jeans and how do you style them? Technically, mom jeans are light-washed, high-waisted jeans that were popular in the 80’s and 90’s. You can still technically find those jeans now, but mom jeans have gotten an upgrade if you will. So for me, any high-waisted, straight-legged jeans are considered mom jeans. I like to style mom jeans casually with mules, sneakers, or flats, but today’s blog post is all about how to dress them up.

I typically wear my mom jeans casually. My style gravitates towards easy basics and more so since becoming a mom. But with 3 simple tips, you can easily dress them up without having to do a lot of shopping.  

3 Tips To Dressing Up Mom Jeans

1. Choose a blouse or dressier top – You can technically still wear a tee or sweater with mom jeans and dress them up, but I love the idea of doing this with a blouse or a dressier top. Tuck in your top to give it a more formal/dressed up feel and to show more leg.
2. Wear a simple heel – Since the jeans are on the wide-side I like the idea of wearing a simple, slimming heel. You can get away with pumps if you’re dressing for work, too. Light wash jeans and a heeled sandal are quintessential spring for me.
3. Choose a small bag – A small bag will take your outfit from casual everyday to elevated and nice for date night. Small handle bags are huge right now, so there’s a ton to choose from.

Swapping a couple accessories goes a long way and is your best bet when dressing up a rather casual piece like mom jeans.

Speaking of mom jeans, I can’t say enough good things about these Levi’s. They fit like a glove along the waist and butt. The rips hit right at my knees which I love. I have always gone with my normal size with Levi’s jeans, but there is no stretch, so you may want to size up. I LOVE the light wash, but keep in mind, these are two toned (not something I realized on the website). The wash is lighter in the front and darker in the back. This isn’t something that bothers me, but just something to know before ordering. I’m also obsessed with my new Jaggar heels. The brand is new-to-me and I love how simple they are. I’ve been on the search for a simple cognac brown sandal and the first time I laid eyes on these, I ordered them. Of course Nordstrom comes through.
