Now that we’ve taken care of the fall essentials, let’s talk about fall trends. I don’t normally dedicate a full post to trendy pieces, but this seasons it-items are absolutely doable and work well in a neutral lover’s wardrobe.
F L A R E S – I’m not sure how I feel about this trend for myself, but I’ve seen it on a couple of bloggers and I will say, flares have made a comeback in the best possible way. It’s like when you go to your high school reunion as a better version of yourself. I don’t even remember how they were styled back in the 70’s and then the 90’s, but they’ve never looked better. For those of you over the whole skinny jeans thing, I would say give these a try. They’re slimming and elongating. That’s an all around win in my book.
M A R S A L A / W I N E / B U R G U N D Y – Because of it’s dark hue, marsala can be an easy trend to adopt. It’s like an alternative to navy or black. If you’re hesitant to incorporate the color into your fall wardrobe, ease into it by opting for a burgundy lip or a fun accessory like a handbag.
B U T T O N – F R O N T S K I R T – I finally got my hands on a button-front skirt and I’m even more obsessed than before. I recently styled this Forever 21 denim version with flats (here) and I’m happy to report, the flared mini skirt works on petites (yay!). One of the reasons why I’m drawn to this skirt trend is it’s versatility. It can be worn with flats, heels, or boots and can be dressed up or down. I can’t wait to get myself a suede version!
F R I N G E – I was hesitant about the whole fringe craze, but it’s definitely grown on me. I recently purchased this skirt and I can’t wait to wear it! I think with basic and neutrals, I can tone down the trendy aspect of fringe. If you’re still feeling iffy about the trend, try working it into your wardrobe with shoes. I love these booties and these heels.
L A C E – U P F L A T S – We all know I’m a fan of these. I had high hopes for this pair I ordered last week, but sadly they went back because the quality was just not there. I did snag this pair from Zara (I stocked the website for weeks for a size 5) and they’re perfection! Flats are your alternative to sandals in the fall and what better way to spruce up some classics than with laces. I love the way lace-up flats add that extra oomph to a classic outfit. It’s small details like that that can really transform a look.
