Harper’s 1st Birthday Party + Details

I didn’t plan on posting about Harper’s 1st birthday party, but the whole day turned out better than I thought it would and I received so many DM’s on Instagram about it, I figured I’d share all the details here. I will say this, having her birthday land right after Christmas and New Year’s is tough. Just when you think all the madness is over, you have to plan a birthday party. This mama needs a break, lol.

We had an over-the-top baby shower, so I promised Mike to keep Harper’s birthday parties low key from now on (at least the first one). I really took this to heart because I waited until the last minute to buy or plan anything. So last minute I had to buy everything from Amazon Prime or in-store at Target. Because of my lack of planning, I wasn’t going to posting too much from her birthday – I just figured it would be thrown together and wouldn’t be that cute. I should know myself better by now (I’m always a little extra), lol, because it turned out way better than I thought!

The hardest part of the party was ordering a vegan smash cake. Since I waited so last minute, and the fact that the party landed on the day after a holiday, this part was a struggle. I had to call around to several bakeries, but luckily Petunia’s came through. We ended up doing a banana, carrot, zucchini cake with vegan buttercream frosting. We also had some trouble with the balloon garland, the hot glue gun was popping all the balloons. I will go more into detail about all things balloon garland in a separate post, so stay tuned for that.

The party came together beautifully, the food we catered was really good, and both sides of our family were there. The only downside, Harper wasn’t feeling well. She either caught a cold or was teething really bad starting the day before, so the poor girl was not that happy. She’s such a happy girl, so it was pretty sad. Can we also talk about her outfit. It makes her look like such a big girl.

I wanted to note the decoration pack I ordered off of Amazon. We didn’t end up using everything in the pack, but I must say, it was super convenient, inexpensive, and turned out not as cheesy as it appears online. I know things like this can be hit or miss on Amazon, so I just wanted to share our experience with it. I highly recommend it!
