Recent Coat Purchases + My Reviews

Coat Roundup

Happy Monday, friends! Can you believe it’s December? It’s officially Baby D’s birth month, although, I have a feeling she’ll come in January (due date Dec 30th). I can’t believe the time has finally come to get her out, lol. I’m freaking out just a little bit. The good news, we have most everything prepared for her and for me postpartum. I think I’m most stressed out about work. I still have so much to do. Trying to tell myself to just breathe.

In blog related news, I’ve been getting questions about coat recommendations, so I figured I’d do a post dedicated to my recent coat purchases. I’m sharing my reviews below as well as a roundup of awesome coats that are either on my wishlist or what I think would be great buys. I’m bummed about a couple J.Crew coats that sold out in petite sizes. I always tell myself to be on top of coat purchases, get them early, because they always sell out in my size. I’m crossing my fingers, at least this one comes back in-stock this winter.

SHOP THE POST

Janessa Leone Alara hat

J.Crew Daphne Topcoat Petite xxs

I’ve talked about this coat on Instagram Stories a couple of times, but I’m not sure if I’ve done a complete review. What I love so much about this piece, it’s so easy to wear. It’s super casual, so I can throw it on with just anything and run out the door. I saw that some reviews said they didn’t like the undone seams on the shoulders and wrists, but I happen to think it gives it that edge. The length is great the style and silhouette is simple and classic. This coat is not lined, so keep that in mind. Not the warmest coat out there, but I love it for everyday.

Anthropologie Teddy Coat

Anthropologie Teddy Coat Petite xs

I bought this coat with no expectations. Teddy coats tend to be super oversized, no matter what size you go with. But, to my surprise, this one fits. It’s still oversized, but not obnoxious. The shoulders and arm lengths fit perfectly, which is something I usually have issues with with coats. The sherpa material is super soft and cozy and it’s just so darn warm. I know I will get a ton of wear out of this one once temps drop in the winter.

Topshop Check Overcoat

Topshop Check Overcoat Petite 0

I talked about this coat last week, but in case you missed it, I’m obsessed! My checked coat search lasted around 2 months and I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. I pretty much stalked the Topshop website until something like this became available in petite sizes. BTW, if you’re not petite, Topshop has a good collection of check coats right now. Other than loving the pop of print in my coat wardrobe, I also love this color combination. There’s gray, navy, and brown, making it super versatile and easy to pair with my neutral wardrobe. The sleeves run a tad long for my liking, but other than that, I would say it’s a nice fit for petite sizing.

Banana Republic teddy blazer

Banana Republic Teddy Blazer Coat Petite 0

I couldn’t love this blazer coat more. I think I’m having some trouble styling it just because my bump is so big (I’ve noticed shorter jackets/coats aren’t as flattering when my bump is so large). But, the second I give birth, I will be living in this blazer. It’s a nice alternative to the super oversized teddy coats out there. You’re getting the teddy trend, but on a smaller scale, if that makes sense. I don’t have a brown coat in my closet, so I also really love the color. It’s fully lined and has pockets. Since it is a blazer coat, I sized up one size, so it fit more like a jacket with room.

Bernardo Packable Puffer Jacket Petite xs

You’ve read about my love for Bernardo packable jackets and coats for several years now. This one is my latest acquisition and I love it! It’s the same jacket as the one I have from last year (seen here) – it’s just the matte version. Their petite xs fits me like a glove and I love that their puffer styles have a feminine silhouette, are super flattering, and not overwhelming. I’ve had a couple people tell me they’ve never heard about this brand and that they found them through me. While I don’t think Bernardo coats are as heavy duty as Canada Goose or Montclair, they’re a nice alternative for the price. I wear my longer Bernardo coats in the winter with layers and they work just fine. I would recommend these coats to anyone, but especially if you’re petite!

Topshop petite aviator jacket

Topshop Aviator Jacket Petite 0

I have yet to style this aviator jacket on the blog, but did end up keeping it. I think I’ll have better luck styling it without a bump… The shoulders and sleeve lengths fit nicely, but the jacket does hit at a weird length – just below my hips. Despite the awkward length, I knew I would regret it if I returned it. It’s one of those pieces that don’t come around often, especially in my size. I also love that it’s lined with the faux fur, making it soft and cozy. Just an FYI, it’s not as heavy as it appears, which I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. I could imagine a coat like this that’s heavy, could get annoying, but on the other hand, there could be a little more weight to it to keep me warm. I just ordered a tan aviator jacket from Loft similar to this one. Stay tuned to see if that one works out!

Ann Taylor twill trench

Ann Taylor Twill Trench Coat Petite xxs

This was another coat I didn’t have too many expectations about. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived, though. The color and print are pretty spot on to the photos on the website. I was more surprised by the weight. It’s fairly heavy for a ‘trench,’ which I’m happy about because when layered, I can easily wear it in the winter. I used to shy away from coats that were this long, but I happen to really love it and think it’s quiet chic (especially with flats). I wouldn’t recommend this as a winter coat per se, but if you live in warmer climates, this is a great alternative to your typical wool coat.

J.Crew Peacoat

J.Crew Peacoat Petite xxs

This is one of my most fitted coats (which I happen to love). The brass hardware and large lapels make a huge statement. It’s fully lined,  warm, and the quality is super nice. I typically don’t gravitate toward short peacoats, but this one from J.Crew is as classic as they come. I know I’ll have this coat for years.

How to Style OTK Boots

Aritzia Dujardin Sweater Cardigan xxs

Hands down my most used piece(s) this fall. I loved my dark gray version so much, I ordered it in camel as well. I’m even thinking about ordering it in cream. It feels like a heavy duty cardigan, so it’s warm, especially when it’s layered. I reach for this nearly everyday. It’s super easy to wear, comfortable, and chic. The wool is nice and not itchy. It does start to peel after so many wears, but I’ve been using my fabric fuzz shaver, which if you don’t have one, is a must! I wear this coat with OTK boots, flats, and sneakers. It’s my absolute favorite!
